{ a fabric shop hop }

Friday afternoon browsing the local paper, I spotted the Austin Fabric Shop Hop. It was a scavenger hunt type event that lead you to four local fabric stores to enter a drawing. Fingers crossed!

My favorite fabrics were at The Cloth Pocket. Their current cotton prints are beautiful and trendy. I can’t wait for an excuse to buy some! Which means I sewing through my fabric stash… My grandmother has sewn and knit beautifully for decades. Her patience and attention to detail really inspire me. From the lace wedding dresses she made for my mom and aunt to the perfectly tailored pants and jackets she’s worn for years. She was cleaning out her fabric closet recently and gifted me as many beautiful wools, silks, cottons, and knits as I could carry. Then, my mother-in-law did the same! I have an amazing stash of fabric that I still feel unqualified to touch. But, I’m getting there! One project at a time.

The shop at Walker Hall Designs carried handmade ceramics and other gifts in addition to fabric. My favorite items in the store were the creamy, textured flower vases. I may be back in a few days to buy one as I can’t get them out of my head! I was also inspired to make napkins for an upcoming dinner party as they had beautiful fabric napkins for sale.

The other amazing find was the Stitch Lab! They have all sorts of sewing classes that sound like fun. It would be really awesome to use some of my wool in their winter coat class.
